This section is largely dedicated to my professional journey as a technical communicator, starting with the
courses I took at
Texas Tech and ending with experience I gained from the projects
I worked on over the past three years.
My most recent job was a contract position with the Systems Team of
the Creative Department of
Capital One. During my short tenure with the company, I
wrote several user guides for in-house developed software and participated in technical requirements and roll-out meetings
for a large web-based application supplied by an outside vendor. I
loved it!
Until June 2004, I have been working as a technical writer/editor
for Innovative Emergency Management,
Inc., a leading risk and emergency management company providing
services to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the
U.S. Department of Defense, as well as to private industry and local
governments.
There is not much information here about my previous job with
Cingular
Wireless for two main reasons: it was not particularly rewarding,
and, besides, I mostly worked with proprietary information and systems.
Here you will also find an overview of my
teaching
career at Texas Tech and Kharkov National University, as well as
information about my work as a
free-lance translator and interpreter.
Soon, I will be adding pages about my management experience and my
research on ethnic stereotypes in natural languages.
I believe that this mix of experiences and skills, together with the
background in MIS, finance, and linguistics, gives me a unique set
of abilities and the scope necessary to succeed in the ever-changing role of technical writer
and to become an effective information architect and an advocate for the user.
